Work
Plan:
State
government plays a vital role in the lives
of people living with dementia. By statute,
regulation and funding -- or their absence
-- government shapes the quality,
accessibility and affordability of health
care. Government can provide financial
support for scientific research into the
causes, treatment and prevention of
disease. Government can regulate the
private market for long-term care insurance
policies. Government can guide family
caregivers through the maze of public and
private resources. Government can ensure
that assisted living and nursing homes
provide good care. Government can provide
incentives to expand the number of doctors
and nurses specializing in geriatric care.
